Why Focus on Scope 3 Action?
First things first. Scope 3 emissions, originating from the entire value chain of a company, often constitute the lion’s share of its total carbon footprint—up to 90% in many cases. Despite their significance, reducing these emissions remains a daunting task due to a lack of comprehensive data and effective collaboration with partners along the supply chain.
Initiatives like the UN Race to Zero, Science Based Targets Initiative, and Carbon Disclosure Project highlight the increasing need for data-driven approaches to decarbonize Scope 3 emissions and make action-driven climate decisions. However, according to the SBTi (2023), so far only 6% of companies with scientific climate targets use specific supplier data to achieve them. This is where #CTS2024 comes in, providing a platform for sharing knowledge and strategies to drive effective climate action along the entire supply chain.

The summit’s workshops, held in two slots during the Summit Day on September 12th, are at the heart of the summit. They are designed to offer you hands-on training, peer knowledge sharing, and practical support from experts in various fields.

1. Strategic Sourcing: Empowering Climate Decision-Making in Procurement Sven Schirmer from Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) will host this workshop, focusing on how procurement can drive climate decisions. Participants will learn strategies for integrating sustainability into their own sourcing decisions effectively.
2. Climate risks in the Supply Chain: Challenges and Solutions Lena Engel from TÜV Rheinland Consulting will provide insights into managing sustainability risks within supply chains. This session will cover risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies to ensure resilient and sustainable supply chains.
3. Scope 3 Action Group: Best Practices & Community This workshop, featuring Tabea Muench (Atruvia AG), Pascal Bayard (Continental – Contitech AG), Susanne Köhler (myclimate) and Yasha Tarani (The Climate Choice), highlights best practices from the Scope 3 Action Group and fosters community engagement around Scope 3 emission reduction. Attendees will gain practical advice and learn how to collaborate on solutions to common challenges.
4. Sustainability Management: “SDGold – more than just an Award!” Sina Brod (Foundation Development and Climate Alliance), Franziska Weber (AllChiefs), and Moritz Tölke (Sovereign Speed) will discuss the significance of the SDGold Award and how it can drive meaningful climate action and recognition in the industry.
5. Decarbonization Toolbox: Methods and Strategies Maximilian Droste from amc Group will present various tools and strategies for decarbonization in procurement systems. This workshop will provide attendees with a comprehensive toolkit to implement effective decarbonization practices within their organizations.
6. Scope 3 Action: Achieving your Scope 3 Targets with AI enhanced Solutions led by Stefan Unger (Carl Zeiss SMT AG) and Yasha Tarani (The Climate Choice), this session will explore how artificial intelligence can be leveraged to meet Scope 3 targets. Participants will learn about the latest AI tools and their applications in supply chain emissions reduction.
